My Jungel Travels and the marvels of Peru

Just got back from a game changer in life trip to Peru, visiting Lima, Iquitos, and the great Amazon river and jungles.

Were to start well how about getting up at 4:30 am then off to the airport for the 6 o'clock flight to Houston then off to Peru. We did not land and get to hotel tell12:30 am so long day.

Right off I amassed and awed by all the peeps in Li ma very low and the high way of life and they in numbers go hard into the night.

the fist full day here we took a bus to the down town plaza with the many chapels and presidential palace. There was a big singing, dancing and posturing of different tribes for the I think 27 day celebration of the virgin.

The Catholic spirit is very high here, peeps wait in line for hours to get in some chapels to pray and be blessed.

After taking in the sights we headed back to the hotel for what started out to be one of many time being involved with the drinking of Pis co Sours. They are even celebrated on a certain day of the year which was during our visit. We then went to a Ocean Restraint for fab meal.

next day we are headed to Iquitos for our one and half hour drive to Nauta which is right on the river and our boat is waiting to take us on our adventure. We spent a few days walking in the Jungle learning about it and all it's inhabitants which are so many. Colorful birds were every where. We stayed a night right in the jungle, something i knew of ahead of time and had been in pucker mode, but I managed unscathed except for my ears getting over worked with the new sounds all night except maybe one or two hours of break and pretty peacefulness.

We as a group from peeps from William and Marry , Oregon State Alum's and a few just on the tour numbered some 14 moved through the jungle boarded the skiffs and ate many great meals cooked up by some great malty tasking peeps from various villages along the Amazon. They are for the expedition and stay on the in the jungle and on the river like the Cycling House is for bikers, they totally have it dialed and make the stay great.

We spent seven days on this adventure which was a memories and experience to last . It was good to see how simple people could live and survive and look happy and content with that, it also may ed me really appreciate so many of the things i take for granted. Got to say that the most the peeps on this trip not all were in their 60's and up but there was this one lady Doris with her daughter in law that was 92 and full of so much life. She could hang with all the hikes, all the conversations , she could bring the humor and she brought a sweetness that had me crush en on this young lady.

So we got back to the states Sunday in time for a dry sunny marvelous day for a two hour mountain bike ride then settled in to finish watching the super bowl with me being happy with which ever team won, it's so less stress full that way. Half hour after the game it's lights out with full on diarea, fever thing , chills and just plain go ahead and shoot me feelings that after two days are still lingering--ouch. Got to heal soon need to be in Tucson to meet and ride with peeps from Montana by Friday. So take care all...

The winter time paaen by

So been aol for some time . but many of us blogger type have been.

I've got in a ride here and there being the fair weather boy always, every once in while I hit the outside ridden in the cold crispy foggy stuff but not of free will. I actually got in with some of the Corvegan rider's last Sunday and in between 4 flats we got some fast paseline and ridden in which i am know way in shape for.

The mountain biking is stellar on most of the trail around town. it's been dryer her in Corvallis than normal winters and I dig that .

Have had a few good ski weekends up in Bend which so much like The Zoo. There are a number of trails up around Bachelor that groomed like Yellow Stone, a pleasure to ski on.

So proud to report the addition of one more Gran daughter, she is the third and from the looks it the last from my daughters Danyel and Angela,it's an all girl thing which is great. Grace was born 5 weeks early and had a ruff week like her mom Angela . After a week they are much better and home with the rest of the fam.

Yesterday i went Portland and stayed at the Crystal Hotel, it's a Micminniamin thing like some many buildings they have taken and reconstructed into hotel.bars, restaurants and pools, sometimes theaters. Everything in one and just stay and play,works for me especially last night when we ate at Jake's across the street,shop ed a little at buffalo exchange, hit the famous book store Powell's, like three stories of room after room of books. Then we were off to the bar in the Crystal Hotel that had a great 2 boy 2 girl band called Golden Boy, easy listening. Then off to the famous Crystal Ball room just up the block for 80's music on huge screens and a bouncy floor, which after 3 hours of none stop dancen it was a must. Then by one in the morning off to the hotel soaking pool which a few were still occupying, so by two a.m. it was crumbling time. but for fact i still got a little move and some late night in me, now recovery-recovery...

Miss summer but the beat goes on

So it's only been 4 months ,who's counting? I have enjoyed reading the other blogs ,face book and other ways of cathchen up.

I got sorta busy with work ,travel ,family,friends and some fitness try's and here is what I tried to do . After getting all sick and travelling to Honolulu for a week I trained a weekend with 4 days in a roll then raced at the Tour De Bozeman the week after then off to Sun Valley for mt. bike nats where I barley made the podium for 5th,dam the guys my and every other age are tuff at that level. Then it was serious training for around 6 weeks with one back pack trip mixed in for cross train and pain ,there was a little to much liquid spirits packed in so well good for training and pain control right? Off to road nats I went and did better in the crit and road race than i ever have finishing right in the front packs in both but not worthy of the podium. Road so far is my nemeses to get on the steps.

So in between and after this fitness and race escapade i scooter ed all over town for visits ,bbq, and just to much fun. the summer was fast but sweet.

Now with fall and that winter thing upon us I am tryin to adapt with out haven those lay outs in the spandex on the hill above Brennen's wave then maybe a beer where ever you can get a beer in spandex, I don't recommend so much shamie time.

I did the Butte cross at the beginning of Montana's season and did better than usual but then hit a 4 week hiatus before dabbling in Redmond,WA. with visits with Danyel and family and travelling to sea town with Julie staying like royalty at the silver cloud right next to the clink and safeco field and the pyramid brewery,now that's spoilt and i like it. So after the first cross race in a month after the cushy stay at the cloud and racing with some fast and furious 55 year olds for a bareley 2nd i traind some what more and hit the magnuson park croosy the next week around beautyfull lake washington,the corse rocked and I quit the mambie routine and got away at the end with some chippy passin and cornering and a little more gas in the tank than the wek before.Also got to see the Ivanaiter turn it loose on the cat 4 ladies,she's rocken this cross stuff. Bye for now all talk again in another 4 months.

Last Weekend Was To Live For...

Now that I've set on my flat side or laid around like a beached whale ,still have no energy or much will to move off the confines of the couch,maybe I need one of those what F----- blankets. Not even getting that restless yet ,so a true sign of sicccccccccccccccck ...

I had the best time ridding trail then road the next day last weekend the weather ,the flowers ,the peeps and the panoramic views made my summer. Started out Saturday morning meeting a mostly Julie Hauck group at the farmers market for pre ride breaky and coffee, think the hole town was out in the splendor of the orb in the sky providing the color we love and miss. this is when it all comes together and life is good. So off we went towards Jumbo and beyond, up Lincoln Hills we had to do that walk of trail to the next street. How stupid is that ? But dismount and obey the sign we did for 50 yards or so , guess the guy who lives next to it is the trail nazi so do the walk. Up up we went past the house that doesn't belong on the ridge heading to three larches, i was amazed at how wet and muddy these sections are and water really running where it normally trickles or doesn't exist this time of the year. We stopped alot for Kodak moments and the catch your thin air attempt. The scenery was a main line shot of apreceation . We made way to the top of three larches then the drop down freddy that always puckers me some , mostly in respect of what has happened and can happen here. Down to Rattlesnake garden for talk of the ride a cold smoke and some eats and again life is good.

next day was a hole different ball game with the ride starting at Le Petit and consisting of the heavy hitters and I show up with the heavy finder ed up tri cross for what blindly thought would be social cruise to Alberton,anything but came of that. Pace lining at race pace soon as we hit big flat then sprints for signs and Z-man crunch up the hills. This is when i had started out with a sore throat the night before and not much for voice or breathing for the ride. There I was in pain ass cave out and back. Tried laying in that great hot sun after to bake what ever was invading the body but failed so all week has been suffer fest with the cold from hell. Much rather the pain cave of ridden with a bunch of testy dudes. So much for fitness,that's gonna be a re-do .

Catch UP And Tell

I'm tardy in so many ways. but here I set on getting a flat spot rear end with some time and the constant sound of the unending rain. I got real run down last weekend during the partaking of the 24 hour race and got the rare for me kick ass cold now.

The story of the Round And Round 24 hour mountain bike race held in Spokane at the riverside park area started about 6 weeks ago when i got the call up to the big league's from Bill Schultz with all local zoo town he being the ring leader to this kind of hell but the feal of a big accomplishment in the same moment. We had a 5 man team may ed up to qualify for the 250 age group. This was helped out do to bill and I 57 a piece with the others 50 and under,wow and no wheel chairs among us.

I didn't get a mountain tell 3 weeks ago and not having one sense last September, I've been in catch up mold with road ridding under my belt and 4 mountain bike rides with one a race to go into this suffer fest.

We had some very strong and well rounded guys with close to the same times through out the ordeal which was key to beat ting the Old Wymm dudes from the west side. We got top spot on the podium a cool jersey bottle of wine and a big oh medal. There was a good representation of Montanaians racing and doing well !!!

Well other things going on have been work and more work with me already wishing for the end of September cause i am ruined for that sort of thing anymore with being so good at 6 months of retirement per year.

I've been hang en with fam allot rock en easter at my daughter Angelas with lots of gran daughter time . Check en out the circus the easter egg hunt with many curtain hangers running about. Trying to get Amaya off the training wheels which I may need back some day.

So is anyone bothered about the lack of rainless days yet? Dam gonna need to like duck with water tight rear end if it keeps this up. And due to the run off and rain there wont be a stse road race this weekend which for me on the sick list is a blessing.

Travel but back in the Center of univerce

I took the long way back from Oregon but enjoyed all the visits and different spots to ride some old to me and some new. I rode down by the snake river and up some grades that were usually 5 to 6 mile climbs. I got a real nice and long ride in with Danyel my daughter who was in Pullman for a visit and birthday for joes 85 year old Granny. We ran into masssive head wind that put uss down to a crawel at times . I stayed in my house on wheels down around Lewiston Idaho loven the ridding and the green was up and coming. I busted my chops to do the frozen flat land but the chops won out and no race,little things like only haven my cross bike ,just dodell ridden latley things like that . I did get back to the Zoo Friday in time for first friday and saw many peeps which was cool and rode the next day with Z-man and he slayed me bad. I'm finding it harder to find the drive to push in and out of the pain cave. just like putting latley,whats wrong with that? So on we go towards spring or in the search of it. Take care all.

The reprieave is over 2011

Oh it was great while it lasted I got my much needed hit of sun,blue sky and warmth for 3 weeks. But now back in Oregon for a few weeks then back to Zoo Town to mines of work. At best I may see the sky again in April. It has rained here sense Friday when I rolled in and it's Monday -what the???

I spoil easily and the acclamation back to dark,cold and dreaie isn't easy. But on the other side of it the green,great smelling air and a glimpse of sun here and there are nice.

The travel was perky with the parts moving around from Barrago to Yuma then back to Barrago Springs for a few more days because I could. When I first got back there I jumped on the crossy with it's road tire set up and headed up to Julian California which is around 45 hundred feet up from around 4oo feet start from Barrago. Lots of switches and great hilly scenery up and into the snow on the side of the road I went. I meant a dude touring from Minneapolis and we shared some talk over bosen berry pie and tortilla soup at the famous Julian bakery eatery.

I road the next day up Montezuma Pass again trying to make the 55 mile loop but cross winds had a different plan. I turned around and tried to stand with my back to the wind to put some warmer duds on and couldn't hardly hold my spot from the push of the gail force. So back to barrago and the flat with some wind but do able.

I hung one more day in Barrago going to a bar the night before and listening to some great music by a band from Cordalane Idaho that could CCR-The Stones-The Doors-Johny Cash-etc and did it right. Next day I had a real treat with a meat ting from Heidi Swift and Sal Bondi from Portland,I've known them a couple of years now from Cycling House rides. Swifty was going to tour the area and Sal was meeting up with Russel Creed camp in Palm Springs. The weather kinda sucked that day so I suggested Wild Turkey Honey flavored to Swifty if she was stuck for the day there. She sent a tex out later that day with the Turkey photo-nice Swifty.

Off to Palm Springs where the ridding to me isn't that great because of the bad cally roads and way to many drivers on the good climbs. I meant up with the Sal gang of 9 riders one day.

Then off to Vegas which I myself have always kinda just done drive by's but I found out a thing or two this time. The down town vibe was actually kinda fun the peeps watching after a few gin and tonics got more interesting especially with both sexes in troll mode. The guys in there under sized designer tee shirts and the girls also in their under sized dresses,not such a bad thing... I did a Circus Oh la show with the Beetles Love which was a life changer . Same night did a BB Kings Bar with a great Jazz band toured the new Cosmopolitan ,saw the Bolshoi fountain show,played pool did arcade games,drained seven and sevens with a tequila shot,played the slots and was back at the hotel by one o'clock. Now for me because maybe I am a Mam bi Pambie that was sensory over load.

Before and after this did a couple of great hikes with a beautiful slot canyon by Lake Mead and a ten k and scuttle around Red Rock Canyon.

Last week after not ridding for 5 days I put in 3 days with 172 mile total with the legs after so many Lake Mead rollers won ting to scream No Moss on the third 60 mile day. The scenery threw Valley of the Sun just rocks like Utah and maybe more so that 70 mile day I didn't feal much pain. SO won ting to visit and hang a little more in Oregon before the Montana journey I tore myself away from this warm, blue skied great ridding area. What the hell was I thinking ??? Maybe I got to much wattage over load in sin city. It has rained every day here seance I got back. I know buck up after all it is the great and beautiful North West and mostly I am happy to be back in it...

At last a little southern comfort

I did it got into the little red pick up and drove away from Oregon due south I-5 like Driving all day and most of the night I reached a place called Barrago Springs in Cally,kind of east and north from Mt. Palomar
This place was completely unridden by myself tell now. Right off I meant a ridder from bend Oregon ,he was down in this fine road ridders paradice with 5 others from Oregon .They had been there 5 days so new a thing or two,i listened and figured out where Montezuma Pass, I had 12 miles of warm up in a good oh south west head wind then it's
up up for 12 miles in head which doubles for more effort. Right off I can tell this is the place for serious good ridding with out much traffic and pretty good pavement . From what the maps show and I've seen this place is the other bomb to ride with long loops,big climbs,fairly good pa voe and little traffic.
When I was out fighting with the head wind and totting myself up the climbs I saw a group of 20 rider type then 5 then 2's and 3's so the place is on the map. It;s got some blue sky and warm soothing sun...
Idid some monster hikes here in Yuma and a couple of pretty San rides with the retirement group. There is this guy Big mark who is 350 with solid power about 41 yearsyoung that can and dose literally spank it when he wants. We as a group were heading back toward Yuma when Clydesdale decided to kick in the last mile and half at warp speed in a head wind. later he told me we topped out at 41 mph that's Fabian C. power
So back to Barrago tomorrow for more scouting for future stay and play then off to Palm Springs for some rest and pamper getting my poor oh self to get threw the 6 months of work coming up. Take care and share the roads.

Some winter some spring

It's all good out there I think. So I'm still here in Corvallis but putting it to use. Some days like recently it hasn't rained for like a week oh my. The weather has warmed up especially if you travel a little distance and up you emerge from the fog.

I have been ridding a little like 3 0r 4 times a week , I was suppose to be in sabbatical mode from the bike but my butts got a passion for the seat what can I say. I usually hook up with the once kick ass in Washington road racing Greg Bennit. he can still turn the peddles over and give it out. On weekends we have between 6 and 8 ridders so there you have it trainer mode in the easy stages cause we can...

On feb. 19th they have a race called the Cherry Pie road race just out of Corvallis so their season starts crazy early around these parts with some Frozen Land race the next day.

I have gotten in some good hikes here they have forest all around so one doesn't have to venture far for great trail. I went back up to Mary's Peak yesterday thinking I would beat a long drive for nordic skiing and classic like before up there well big surprise what eve feet of snow they did have had gone almost completely away except for a minuet clump here and there. I got in a 5 mile hike on some nice trail there then jumped into the red ridder for a little over an hour drive to the ocean. I hung out right on the beach set tin my leisure ass on my little fold out chair right next to the breaking surf and facing the glaring sun. One or two things missing cold beer and ?

Where did those ten years go ? 2011 now ?

So really just yesterday it was 2000 I was there and with pretty much a eye blink here I am with you all. So now what . Live on , be good to yourself and others ...

The thing in Tucson really caught me and many others off gard again , It's called warning signs and a sociological evaluation before you can pull the trigger . Maybe weed out a few that really shouldn't be behind the firearm .

In a lighter note and my way of moving on and into the simple and happy side of life where peeps aren't hurt by others . Which is recreation in the healthy sense , where it's all good .

I gotta say Oregon is pretty spacial with all the green even now in the middle of winter , at least in the valley's and low hills. The snow is easy access from Corvallis right now with Mary's Peak 45 mins. away and places like Hoo Doo or Willamette pass around 2 hours away , then it's ski nordic or down hill one day and down in the valley with pretty dissent weather sometimes for a road or mountain bike ride . NOW that is a good and sutle way to take my mind off the warmth and great days in Tucson and other south west spots kinda.

Once you've tasted the great ridding ,hiking and other rec things in the southwest during the winter it is always that pull to bail from the cold to that warm spot. Staying longer and enjoying the nordic stuff that Northwest has to offer and ridding in the elements make me appreciate the Tucson area alot and possibly tuffen me up a bit cause I am getting fat and soft .

It's great seeing all the photos on face book and in the blogs that peeps are always putting out there especially the nordic spots , keep them coming please. ML

The year 2010

Well hope each and all got a thing or two of what they wanted. My Christmas was good in the part of the country where it all got started. i stayed in Carlisele Pen. which is full of American history, old buildings,military instillation's,and some nice folks here and there.

I had no real idea of the civil war. I think what I learned in the wattage days was glossed over. To go on the battle field at Gettysburg and go thought the tours and the battle field itself was way more en lightning and true to the story and feal of the state of totol carneige that the war brought on.

I stayed at the Carlisele barracks with the war collage being there. We stayed in the Washington hall where George had once spent some time and saw museum in foe on just a few peeps that had attended her like General Schwatzcolfe, Hauige, Westmoreland and many others versed in the W word.

Guess most peeps new of the discombobulation of travel out east this last week and yes we were affected to the point of one day lay over in a Hilsborrow area and off to Chi town the next day then accidental placement in first class from there to Portland. i was treated like king for a day with Mom like flight attendants at my every beckon call. I could roll like this with bloody Mary's,omelets with the break fest works, tea , water and the washing of my face and hands after. The last part little untrue but the rest point on . I felt like top self.

Once back in p-town of course it was full on drizzle that really is a down poor going on. That's ok it was much warmer like a sauna compared to the east and so green again. take care all tell next adventure. ML

Croos is over an life gose on 2010

Well now that it's over I kinda but not really miss it. I am sort of a mamby pamby about the cold,muddy ,rainie and sometimes snowy racing and training but that's just me and sometimes ,not often I am into it all the way.

I rode in stuff here in green oh Oregon sometimes that would make a preacher type of person swear. now that it's in the past I'm just wondering could or can I ride in these elements again. i did pretty good the last two years in the Oregon region especially sense I'm so dam spoiled with Arizona in the winter and Montana in the summer ridden.

My age group at nats was so stacked. I new going in of peeps like the King Ned O. Then last years champ Paul Curly. Gary Thacker year before champ and then there were the surprise guys like krice,Smith and Root. For our age group even and up the guys are really bringing it.

I was on the front line at the start with Ned and company. maybe I put to much into the hole shot but being up front usually keeps you out harms way and for a quarter of a lap that's how it was and well yes it felt good but I was in redlines ville. by the time we were on the backside of the coerce and had just got back on a stretch of pavement Pale Curly went blazon by and I was in recover mode but should have passed him right back knowing we would inter the dark forest and single track portions of the coerce because of snow covering the rest soon. Curly was running tricked out front tire with little or no tread for speed so when we went into the first fast lefty of the mud slicked corner down he went taking up all room from inside to the ribbon boundaries. I came to a complete stop with him spinning up and back on with the race and our short gap from Ned and the rest caught. Krice went fast around both Curly and I then Ned which I didn't try holding off or cutting off from taking the single track away from me.

This is were the hole race went from i was really in win mode to loosing my groove , rhythm and killer instinct to just survival mode. What is up with that???

Back to the race so in 4th now and all the things above just going on I was passed by two others putting me in 6th and off the podium. I didn't give up but just couldn't getting it Rollin again. I considering the quality of races I was against I'm pretty happy with 6th but not so much so I'll be back cause that's what we do when we have the passion and lust for the podium and us boys and girls that never wanna grow up or slow down.

So each and all hope you get what you wont for Christmas, are good yourself and the peeps around you and Happy new Year. Cheers...

Fall gose on

Well now what to say or not. It's been a sort of uneventful couple of weeks except for a cross race here and there on the weekends. it has rained so much here in gray wet Oregon that I think I'm noticing some webbing developing between the toes. But when there is a nice day ,it's celebrate and put as much into out door fun,training and other out door stuff as one possibly can and so now the effects of that have caught up with a cold in the head and going down for the lungs. This is the way I roll I start racing more,training smarter with good interval work outs and having some results like Barton park last week . having to start in around 50th out of 64 and way in back of the front group I moved up to 5th for the finish and felt all fussy with this tell guess from being all wet muddy and cold to long after that race and not really resting well two days later the bug is kick en-so down time.

i did just sign up for nats and will race with some legends like Ned Overend and many other past nat champs so I better mend up quick or hide well. hope to see some of the Montana peeps in Bend should be fun. Bring the boards so we can get some nordic stuff between the races.

To Montana and back ...

Well now life is still good and all . I took flight well actually drive from Oregon over a week ago up to Issaque,hung with Danyel and fam then next day off to the center of the universe Montana. Really started missing it and the peeps in just a month.

We know than rolled in and headed for Byarn brewery for dopple bock oh my 2 maybe 3 and things seem way better and can accomplish anything attitude sneaks in.

So head twinge that night up sort of early to catch the Scarfe suby express to bozzoe town for costume mule cross. the coarse rocked with everything but mud and I'm always good with that. I had my old tricross bike with way to high of gearing to peddle my massive carcass up the ahould run hills. We being the 40 plus masters raced with the 1,2,3 group and it was good time mostly cept for the sram rear derailleur going fragelie with 4 laps to go and 3rd was were i would stay after moving up close to the ghost like Scharfe. The Mule cross gang were very entertaining ,the hole was festive and fun to hang and chat.

The rest of our week in Zoo Town was full of good visits,dinners,drinking and blue bird awesome rides and company during. The fall colors were some of the best .

I no more than came back to Issaque with Danyel and Payton then I was up with a late start from there headed towards Salem Oregon for the E-Z orchards cross race.may ed it with a half hour to spare before 50 plus 35 plus B race ,just right.

So off we went 12 or so old guys and 24 or so young dudes in a muddy tight turning face clubben trees every where. The guise,ruts and muddy climb after the barriers were spots I kept lossing ground and would make up for it on the straights and some corners when I wasn't falling in my not so favorite corner 3 times-what kinda charm is that other than I finally kept it up last lap. So 3 times out of 6 laps , not so good. Did get 2nd behind legend Steve Yenne .

They were right by the orchard store with everything look en good after the hainess exertion. So I know I have lots of work before nats looking at sign up today and finding out that the man Ned Overend is in my age group along with Yenne,Griffits ffrom oregon and many other previous nat champs in there so shit better really buck up ...

fall around us 2010

So boo or something like that. It's go time this weekend,anybody scared yet? I do like Halloween more than the other celebrated days it just seems more festive and fun and not so dam expensive.

I have been on a tear for a few weeks doing at least one epic ride a week and some red line stuff h ere and there buttttttttttttttttttttttttt haven't raced in almost a month now. I know What The... Lasy not a I can't breath cause the mud's to deep kinda guy. i was getting souped up to do go time this weekend but blew something apart in the left leg and turned a sciatica thing into a storm of hurt by doing hill repeats running-Stupid me running helps but really sucks toooooooooo. Over it and will just see maybe no nats this year.

I have hung out at the beach around New Port with some stellar weather,lots of beach walks and some great freashhhhh sea food included daily. Also hung out in the Portland area for a weekend and most have walked every street up there. There are some cool things going on with lots of diversity and color. i went to the Chang hi tunnels and learned that drinking or doing opium in the day day could end you up in a dark oh tunnel and later out to sea after being bought by some high seas captain--shit not good. Saw many parks in and around the city with condos and apartments near by,it has this very comfy down town vibe like Zoo-Town. There were peeps every where. They have at many spots these food vinder trailers serve about anything. I went with friends to Russel Crees grand opening of Upper Echelon training facility on 17th Ave near the water front,there most of been 200 peeps there.The place rocks and will have yoga, biking physical therapy,massage therapy and work out instructors with pro and semi pro backgrounds.

Well what to do today i got a window yesterday with maybe 4 hours of ridden before the clouds opened up again . It has rained over 5 inches sense Sunday dam half montanas yearly. Gotta start taking double doses of that vitamin D. Take Care All ML...

So just keeping up with all the info on the net ,blog and etc. is like being a random traveler. It works though and keeps myself and others up to date. but another thing it dose is makes me miss the peeps and the going on in these different spots.

The Zoo Town cross and life style is rocken as in Seattle where I was visiting Danyel and fam last week. With watching Payton the 3 year old gran daughter throw down in every aspect of growen up,she is fun. i road cross and pavement and really got lost one day with Danyel in their Tiger Mountain paradise of ridding right before the monsoon like rains hit for 2 days and nights . I would have maybe raced at Beverley Park in Seattle if not for the very ugly conditions but most of all the flat rear tire on my tubis from to many black berry bushes in western wa. this made it easier to wimp out to the 8 inch mud spots all over the coerce.Maybe i;m old enough to know better or just didn't wont to do a complete bike rebuild like most had toooooo.

on the way south from Seattle i noticed a few mud caked bikes on roof racks headed back towards Sea town from the Rainer school race part of the cross crusade series,they were beyond recognition of make.

I've done a few great road rides here around Corvallis Oregon , one being the kings Valley to Monmouth back to Corvages. Another being Corvegas to Alpine to Alsea Falls over to Alsea back past Marys Peak and back. Both being around 70 miles with alot of great scenery,good roads ,little traffic and a hole lot of up and down.

I went to what Corvegs has on Wednesdays for cross and that being kinda a clinic like with proper barrier movement off and on , cornering , bumping and start skills. I need refresher in some of these areas,ben getting lasy and some bad habits. They also have a high school program going in Oregon something like what Procter has going and is good to see some of that great talent coming out of the involvement from peeps volunteering to help the generate and develop the talent.

Off to the coast this weekend. no racing again oh my . Trying this move this year in coming in a little later and more intense red line and interval stuff. i still do not know what really works for me but it is fun tryin and mix en it up.

End of a short summer

Well hi there kinda have to remember how to do this. So much has gone on this short time summer. hope everyone did a thing or two they wanted.

I didn't race much this year but when i did I had a blast with team mates,Z-man and all other races. I have to say just one thing about being out there with other racers and that is i'm always learning and a flayler at times and say or bark out a little at others just tryin to help improve or keep it real and safe for others ,cause we have day jobs and in my case half a year but still just wont people to stay safe learn it and use it.

With not so much racen I have ben in skatter mode around the state ridding and hiken in recreation mode. places like P- Burg ,Granite gost town , George town lake, all over Zoo town,and to the coast to a place called Isaque where joe and Danyel live now right next to Tiger mountain with all it's recreational ridding and hiking opratunities it is the bomb.

So hi and all hope all is good in your worlds and the beat is goin on. The summer is on full heat mold and peeps are every where dotting the land scape like hungry little sun worship and sun deprived do'ers.

I recently went Granby Colorado and did the Mt. bike Nats. The place pretty much rocked except I don't rock,breath or ride very well except backwards at 9 thousand feet. poor me but some do well especially Bill Schultlz and Frank Gonzales they just do it like a bunny. The coarse was the most suicidal ruff and dropy coarse ever. Not liked by many but some. So after this disaster I'm out as far as any other courses like this or the elevation that just turns my body into worthless slow motion.

With that life goes on and once again i will maybe get schooled at the State roadrace this weekend. But kinda in a morbid way I dig this racen shit so off with the bad taste and with the passion and the love of the fun one most of the time has.

I have also Benn kinda of a work en slave this summer and even if it;s just for the summer it is tuff on my freedom and energy to do other things, oh ye another poor me sense I'm on a freaken roll. Alright no more cry baby Cadel antics. I;m not pleased with the tour standings with Conman leading the Schluckster in a un respectable as he has getten but it has had some fire works and fun to watch the ass clowns on the mountain top stages. I have bean on the work path latley which is good if one wont's to keep the gear locker happy and get the gift that keeps on giving to ur self that is.

So I haven't raced much at all this spring I have bean on some great group rides with some of the peeps in missoula.

Either the race thing or the just humble and go out trails or road it;s all good and I for one enjoy this most of the time but their are moments it seems like work and isn't fun much at all. that just means take a moment and get your self back to the reason ur doing this sort of thing in the first

keep on enjoying.

I like all the enthusiasm towards biking that one sees almost every day around Zoo-town so let the fun begin and keep on given,

Rock on Rebiaux 2010

Oh myyyyyyyyyyyy after sinus infliction for a week and a half and only ridding the trainer occasionally I try and jump into one of the tuffer races in Montana. We had maybe a group of 23 or so juiced up old guys who were mostly early 40 something verses us rellices of racers.

We started out so calm I thought I was in some ones easy lounger and loven life but then the hill then the gravel that seem like boulders at times or tire cutting edged 2 inch tire destroying rocks. I think Alix was the first of many to go,dam those rocks.

There were many attacks and some looked destine to go but always the strong man of the group would be the reel back chosen ones. There were to many strong legs in this group for anything to go tell the end.

We got a group of 5 towards the end , there would have ben more except for all the punchers. Our teamie John the flash was felling the leg ach for to much fun in Moab then thee was Z-Man loosen the necessary tire pressure to ride on and then was brooksie brig en to our group of 5 with 4 others so the number of nine up and to the finish. The super strong rider from Polsen mike the leg breaker did it to all 8 of us up to the line with just Dave l. and I hanging to his hairy back. With the new found patience this year I missed a good jump opportunity again and had to fight hard back on tho their spurt just getting second and no rock again,really wont a rock . But it was a fun fun race and a great group of guys to trade pulls , spurts and dodging of many hole making rocks.

So this week is in the books as my second consecutive work week. I think I can do 5 and half more months. I am so dam spoilt. Good weekend to all. ML

More News 2010

Here I am in beautiful Montana one moment then traveling after just a few days there like the gypsy I must be. I enjoyed my two days in Missoula so much I had to leave. What really happen was arrival,unhook from the home on wheels quick visits with friends and fam,off to the great brew pubs of Z_Town especially some long awaited cold smoke at the new and wonder full Kettle House then over to Byran Brew for Dragons Breath and Doppel Bock, then to Sa Wa De for the curry and white wine ,then by some confusion to Harold's Club with two Corona finding their way down my throat. Oh shit then try getting up heading to Missoula Bike works after greasy Press Box breaky to ride with the crew to Clinton and practice race.

Yes I did all this and raced sorta competitive but I'm 56 not 26 like I was imitating so now it;s bean over a week of kick ass cold and sniffles to ridding through it on the verg of falling over sick,what the hell. I'm sorta like like demo man with the help and body sometimes but do I like life and the peeps in it so bring tell it's not there anymore.

I will be back to work next week for real so my end will probably get kinda quite so the rest of live on your style and some of mine. Cheers to allllllllll....

Saint George and surroundins

Hey there hows every body? Me fine except I left Palm Springs two days ago when it was hitting 75 degree,may I say the best ridding temp ever. So I left and headed to Saint George to meet fellow Montanien Jeff the shim Penrod for some Zion road ridding.

The snow level is down future on the big mountains than I have ever seen it. The stuff around Goose Berry and just up 59 on the rim of hurricane was muddy looking or kinda of deceiving packed look so with the cut though mud or butter road tires on the cross bike I ventured in a few feet with the sink like quick sand effect right off and hence sticky clay caked tires,oh shit what was I think in.

Almost every vehicle i pass has this big crusty mud mode going on,the car wash peeps will make bank. The weather ,I know what your think en here comes the wine so not to disappoint ye it sucks now but will get warmer come Monday.

i need to acclimate cause the work thing is coming at me a little sooner than later like the 22 nd back to the dayly get up at 5:00 in the am and drag my sorry butt to the thing I been away from for six months and try to look happy about it. i know poor me stuff .

It will be nice in most ways to get back to Zoo Town and hang with peeps and the vibe again so save me some Cold Smoke,I've been all over the thought of that stuff for a bit. Cheers very soon!!!

Palm Springs in the Spring time

Well now it's bean a day or two where have you all been? I have had some lapses in concentration on the blog and really in my way busy busy.

I left Tucson a week and half ago and there is with draw feelings from that place and the peeps i meant and revisited along the way.

the Cycling house gang and the many interesting bike and athletic types were a great experience and seeing the peeps I had hung out with the year before was cool we hung out did dinners and rode hard most the time. I meant the pain cave often during my 6 weeks in Tucson.

After leaving there I moseyed on over to Yuma to visit my snow bird parents. We ate way to much got in some movies and golf of all things. I revisited the bike crew which is big in numbers and way big on hart and passion to ride.

I did have a few near races lately but dew to my last minute preparation and sign up skills and not knowing were exactly a race was in Phoenix I missed two so maybe like I like to say there was a reason for that.

So now I'm hanging Palm Springs for a few days then over to San Di ago for a few more then the slow but sure trip back towards Zoo Town. I miss the peeps there but not the idea of work,you just can't take 6 months and expect to get excited to get back to the serious daily grind of work and the clock when one is so used to their time frame and doing what ever they make up for a schedule.

Hey a little hiatus from the blog lately but all is really well. Except for the north west like weather some one keeps sending our way here in what was once known as sunny A Z.
I did two crits last Saturday and it was a great cornerie and even some hill with head wind.i and 26 or so 50 plus youngsters went out early with alot of attachs and bridging up for maybe 5 laps then 4 of us got away. and worked sort of well together.it came down to a third of the way in on the last lap and I new were to go for it on instinct but hesitated 2 seconds to think about and game over got a very close 3rd. The 40 plus was altra go time with 38 or so riders and many of them being pro and cat ones. I am with 4 weeks of ridden in fair shape but many of these dudes can flat fly already occcch. I led the 5th and 4th last laps then trickled back in the pack after being slaid.
The other day I did a very epic ride with Sal,Dan and Torey all from Portland and staying this way a bit. Any who we went into Cheave Falls with many different lines and degree of difficulty.The views were spectac and the falls were so cool. We had a great Salmon feast that night with maybe to much wine and chocolate but oh did we earn it.
I rode up 21 miles up lemon with Bill Schultz in a nice let your big breakie digest pace.A good day and when we turned around Cindy Schultz was thee with the famous Le buzz cookies,she rocks.
Next day another northwest rainie like day we drove over to Bisbee which is very colorful and interesting with good gallery's all around ,restaurants,coffee houses and neat looking buildings all around the towns hill sides with a fairie statue or something here and there. Rockie trail and other

Hey again from what has been sunny warm 70's Tucson but all good things come to and end sometimes and the last few days have been an assortment of tropical storm like Tuesday night when between wind and rain I thought my pass had come for Oz.

The weather and seriously I;m not wining but it has gone the other way the past few days with way more clouds some actual rain and some big time wind with the likes of stuff I used to get in new Mexico. It can be on the scary side and sounds like a jet engine right next to the little house on wheels. There is more to come and snow level is dropping to 4,000 ft. That's last than a third of the way up Lemon.

So I got with Guman and cycling house gang the other day and meant some of the repeat campers that I got to know last year, there are good fun and all abilities. We cruised over to Lemon and went up 14 miles to Windy Point which was all you were allowed cause of snow road closer from there up. The trip down Lemon was snow melt soaked roads drenching use and our bikes for a few miles down then we rolled into Le Buzz to hot lattes.

I rode mountain bike over on the Star and gates Pass area with Dan and Sal. Dan being our guide seance he had gotten to know the area and it's trail from hs college days here.After it was off to El Charo for some killer Chime Chung's and a parking ticket cause lack of food had uss in a brain dase not paying attention to the meter next to the suby. Blue bird and warmth

Oh pinch me really. To me this is liven and luxury of ridding in warmth blue sky es and many biking peeps to share it with. The only problem which isn't tell your legs litterley fall off is ridding to much . It is an addiction here of the purest form.

I've already road with friends Sal and Heidi, the Cycling House gang, Andre the pro Schultz and a few other random peeps. had a great dinner with some of the best home cooked meals with Sal an Heidi and the cycle house crew and a real shower !!! My problem but the small travel trailer has even a smaller bath tub shower made for like Minnie me.More trouble than it's worth so hence spong bath and health club shower here and there.

I have only ventured a third of the way up Lemon so far ,tryen to show respect and just not ready for the beast yet.

It still floors me all the peeps you see biking any given day. I've seen any were from 100 pluss to at least 30 riders every time out.

To the land of sun and here now

I hung out in Yuma with my Mom and Dad and bike friends from the last couple of years for the holidays. Yuma has got to be the worst ever place to bike ride with very ruff roads, debree all over the place and virtually no hills. but this doesn't sway the oldies but good peeps that bike there. They are a fun and happy group and I wish I could bring them to Tucson for the best ridding and weather around.

I traveled through Casa Granada on the way here and did the Valley of the Sun road loop a couple of times as possible rehearsal for next months race,kinda of boring with some hill.

I moved on down to Tucson area the next day hovering around Oral Valley with some great pavement,bike lanes and hills then over to Catalina State Park for a small hike.Couldn't resist this action sense the temps were at 70 and virtually no wind,so perfect for out door everything and the peeps were out in numbers.

Today after setting on my duff with Internet stuff i will be getting together with Hiedi and Sal who I meant last year from Cycling House and will do a little recon cruise.

This place is heaven in the winter and a most do if you haven't i kinda like it and would like a full winter every year of it. Especially sense I did et some winter nordic sking and biking in this winter already.it's all good.

Viva Vegas and Yuma

In the travel mode lately to the south west from the west coast. It is good to be one spot for a few days even if it be Yuma. Did I say the ridding here just sucks like the worst roads in Montana and the flat est spot for miles with lots of traffic.Why well the folks are here and some very nice biker types to hang with but will be heading to Tucson soon.

I have only biked once here in four days and due to the unlike of the terrain that be all for the next for days .

There are many great spots in the south west to ride bit note to the file this isn't one of them so steer clear or pass fast.

Jingle Day was less than exciting hopefully for some that wasn't the case . I wished for a few more blue days than I 've bean seeing.

Vegas was interesting and talk about the bling the night is something around there/ Here or there just to enjoy and take it all in most have walked 9 miles around the strip and i have never seen so many restaurants,nice shwankie ones. You can even gamble in some of the rest rooms, most be Vegas.

Movin on threw Cally and Nevada

Bean on and around the road ways,from Oregon coast line into Cally coast line and oh my up and down and lots of turns with a house on wheels behind it gets to be a little much. I cruised into I-5 by Sacromento a day later on the criuse on mostly flat interstate camenced and I was in. Around Paterson Cal. I found this very view like canyon up to Rains Park,it gose on over towards Sant Jose .It had some maybe 8 to 12 percent grade turning me blue a couple of times. Mostly down hill from te top so all was good. I even got shower,electricity,and cable at a RV lot,life is good. next day off down the road for about 150 miles and I just had to pull over and ride from Kettle man city on a road to Pose Robels with more climbing and head wind so after a hour out it took last than a hour back. After a quick bite on down the road till 11:00 at night around Barstow. next day on into Vegas of all places but I am here to tellye there is some very good riding with sholder.I went out by Red Rock Canyon,what a nice area to ride to and with a 13 mile loop in the park area. you can loop back to vegas theway you come or around for a loop. I'm told Mt. Charelston and Valley of Fire are some great road rides to. Mt.Biken up in the Red Rock is soposed to rock to.

So the today was windy city like all day and now into the night,I'll just gamble or maybe not.

Bend nationals and beyond

Well now It's bean a couple of days away from bloggege. It is nice to stay in contact this way and find out what everyone else is blog gen about.

My week was very eventfull with travelling over to Bend with great blue bird views and the white stuff to focus in on. I rolled into Bend a day before my nat race and road the snow packed and very slick tecky course. So many spots to figure out and get them into the wattage and reaction plan with out over thinking it when racing. That sorta works but just from one day the course got even slip pier so doing the run up mounted wasn't working for me and some of the off cambered things took out the best riders.

When I lined up at the start i got front roll call up for being on the podium last year, that is so sweet especially on real technical day with just singe track being the run. I got the hole shot tell the first corner were eventual winner and 24 time national champ Paul Curley passed me. I hung on for a lap and was then passed by last year champ Gary Thacker. I hung in and even went by him for a trade off once then he got on the serious side of winning and off he went with me starting to really feal this throw down effort with no back off. I rode behind losing just a bit here and there for a while then that reality bug of shut down mode went to work on my body and mind. Bottom line to go red line this caliber of riders takes some serious preparation.

I've got the hart and desire but like I 've always rolled I'm a little lasy on prep,dam me. It really showed half way and three quarters in I just kept fad ding some enough that 4th place went by then 5th. Finally I got rolling some again and went into a lame chase mode getting by for 4th then seeing 3rd about80 meters up into the last lap and all the sudden up the run or ride if you could hill I was closing but not enough then down the hill on the flat and pavement there he was witha couple of lapped riders in both are ways. in pure excitement spastic mode I missed gears in disbelief I was catching him before the last turn and 100 meters to the finish. He got by the lapped rider before the turn I didn't,so around this distraction and big hard chase to the line coming up a bike length short for 3rd.

I left everything out on the course with no excesses other then letting it go and put up or shut if I think and want to do better.

The ace was so cool to be a part of and to have Montana homies and others yelling for me all over the course helped so much so thanks all. it was a pleasure cheering on our peeps and new friends in their races. Great experience for all in and around I would recommend highly coming to watch or be a part of next year. Merry Christmas Alllllllll.......

Coastal Beauty

Sun on the coast is rock star especially in Oregon the color and beauty are something I would never get tired of.

Sense I was in this area like half a million years ago there has bean a lot of growth. Places like Seaside,netuarts,cape lookout,cape mirrors with the light house and the octopus tree and oh ye hay stake in cannon beach are still there. This and a lotmore are so pleasing to look at in ah.

I slacked this weekend with no racing and it felt good. I've kinda put my self into sinus sick zone from push en lately and the cold weather ridding last week so I'm tryin to get back on track and have something for the nats cross race this Thursday for me. It seems to easy to not train enough or over train and getting sick is a real easy part of the excitement straight at ye nervousness to do good. Now I just let it happen and leave it all out on the course and be happy with what ever comes of it.

Turkey Stretch

Well then maybe a few pounds or more sense turkey day and with all the left overs greens have gone by the way side.

Have stayed on track with the fat walk on Thanks Giving cause of the monsoons.But up with the sun days after and some good rides in the books.

Saturday I got in with this Clean Air team in Corvallis. There were 5 me being the 6th. So here we just barley cross the Willamette River out of town and it's go time like race mode for the next 40 miles. Being like a nubie cause I've had no pace work sense summer I was in struggle stages here and there but actually did my pulls with some gusto. I'm in shape but not for this fortitude stuff. These fellows could go too. To top this off the next day I go to Eugene again for a cross race. I'm so fortunate also with Rich Crammer who has won all the big cross crusade races and John Wilson who is almost always 1st,2nd or 3rd state wide. We line up in the 36 degree fog shrouded day with a course much like the week before but there is more mud,more rocks,extra barriers to total 7 in a row and a Little extra stretch added to the lap.

Great pace right off the line with the guy I raced with last week taking the hole shot with US three in pursuit. Our boy Allen slid out in around the 3rd turn right in front of me,that's always a little shocker.We got around him all up right and off we went away from the rest. John and Rich can hold red line in any kind of condition and terrain the full race so I was fealling that false i was and can do this for about 2 and half laps of the 4 laps then lack of their kind of endurance put me way into pain cave and loss of con tack. Oh well I know theres more work to do.

Keep on biken

Still excited to ride and train most the time . There has bean a moment or two when I just wanna cruise and cruise none of this interval or push it hard stuff. Lasy sin drum taking over some. It's easy for me just to joy ride and check out the beautiful country side.
I'm that stage right now were I wanna do well at Nat's but not the work or preparation part,oh well. I did race last Sunday in Eugene,the course was pretty challenging with to sand crossings.A railroad tie stacked jump. A set of 5 steep wooden stairs. Six in a row standard barriers . A rockie patch.A steep hill run or ride section and a lot of tight turned single track muddy slick corners . It also had flat bumpy grass spots with some pavement to rest the werie legs. We had 10- 50+ plus guys with 9 35 + B dudes. The start went out fast, another 50+ dude and I got away and stay that way. We trade off and went at each other the hole race.Great speed work and brush up on the tacky muddy ridden skills. I got past this Allen guy just before the finish and held it.Was totally exhausted and wanted to fall into the wet bushes and die.Guess I didn't leave anything out there.
2 days in a row with sun rays here in Oregon wow!!! It's hard on the eyes not being used to this sun ray thing but I'll take it.
So busying around Corvallis yesterday checking out a few bike shops after a ride I run into Barry Wicks who grew up here in Corvallis. He is just hanging out and doing the cir cut and as many races in Oregon as he can and prep en for Nat's. He noted that Trebon says the Bend Nat course is a cool one but there has bean snow and predicting it for Nat's. Maybe one should have the skies in the pits instead of a bike.

Ajustment made to Oregon

I am liken the biken scene here more all the time especially some training during the week and the temps are usually pretty bearable. What rain ? You just get to a point were you don't notice it so much.

The colors of fall are still rocken. Still many leaves to fall slide around on once in while. Some times when trying to train in a park around town I feal like I am in a bog and going no were.

I went to a beaver game the other day. Man the pack ten has the peeps in the stadium, even haven Elvis was in the house.This guy looked the real if your keepen track how old Elvis would be now.Lots of score and fun time .

I raced the last Cross Crusade of the year Sunday. it was in Barton Park and a old rock quarry. You have to be at these hugely attended races at just the right time for a short pre ride time on the coerce and I wasn't Dammmmm. It was of corce very muddy with fast sections but lots of hidden rocks like minnie mine fields for ones tires. I'm still trying to figure out the tire pressure thing with different conditions. I was running way to low for it but didn't know till race start. I got a great start being 3 rows back with 70 riders again and move up to 4th place right off and held that with a good feal about the hole thing till when start catching some of the 100 or so 35+ guys. My group of seasoned vets went threw them like butter and I was more thick lard. So quickly I lost ground but would catch back then loose again with my legs put tin on the ache. Last lap a third of the way I hit another one those pesky rocks in a dip and have low tire simdum fast.I rode it a tird of a lap to the pits and found out others had front flats leaving with an empty cube rt,dam again. Just as Ryan the Shamono guy used to work at Open Road dude figured this oout he was on with the flat filler stuff but then a tire angel brings back a front shamono tire so on with it and finish around two and half mins. down off what might bean from 4th to 9th.Crap happens but man did I have fun most of that race.

So I bean on the road a bit lately,enjoying this and hang en with family and friends. Lots of miles with many great views especially along and above the Columbia river. It can be pretty spectacular sometimes. I left Missoula with a few more stops to make before heading back to Oregon. iireally should of stayed and raced the States in Montana sounds and looks like I missed a great venue with out monsoons and mega mud bowl at the cross crusade. After it raining an inch and half the day before and most the race day. I need to get over this fobia soon. But being a intrigued supportive fan was so entertaining. here a few shots of all the circus crusade.

and the other thing. i spent a few days with Danyel and family in Seattle.Great riding there and the cross scene had a great coerce at Evergreen high a place I ran state cross country in the 70's oh way back anyway the coerce was easily one of the best ever for my travels and venues.Great use of the short hills and cinder track zone.

I may ed my way back to Zoo-Town for a short visit and a stock up of bike inventory. I stopped in Vantage were the bridge crosses the Columbia and found this old grade to the north that heads up and to Elensburg what a great long extended not to steep maybe 12 miles worth of up

iImay ed it over here to the vibe of Zoo and like that. Have seen a few peeps and rode with a few and drank with a few more now it's time to buck up and head back west for the next mud fest in Portland.Got to see if the flippers are working better than last outing.Happy Trails Chow...

Hi all how you doin? I had a long weekend trying the race each day thing which is a bit hard on old peeps. Saturday was a staler day in Salem on a old golf coerce with out any pavement. Just grass ,sand and pathways of loose grave. The temp was great with plenty of sunshine,after raining all the day before.

The numbers in each race where alot like Montana. I had maybe 12 in the young 50+ Steve Yene a well known road and cross racer was there with a few other very strong riders and even the organiser of the tour of the Walla Walla Steve Rep

Things went out fast and I was drooped by Steve Y. in a hurry so holding second was what it looked like it might be especially when after catching B-35+ riders you would be blocked some time more than the front rider. But 3 laps in the man looses some throttle and I pull up for a while then manage getting gap threw a sand trap and away I went for the next few laps to the win. That with some bigger rides and some cross practice paid off.

I hooked up with some friends I meant in Tucson last year and stayed in Portland which is so hip especially on the east side of the river. We did some a promotion party for a magazine called Wend that is mostly athletic story and picture descriptive..Well they had free good wine and beer which we all no isn't the best recovery way.

So for real we do get home and in bed by ten with a six thirty am. up and depart from the house to the Cross Crusade venue in Hilsburo fair grounds to get a good spot around the coerce and believe this is a most with 1,300 to 1,400 races and any were from 500 to a thousand spectators who get on the crazy side often.

The youngsters again for me 69 riderstried doing thing you always do at the start get up to the front but on this very muddy and grease like traction alot of the time I started losing touch with the top 15 right a way. I no more than was sort of getting the mud thing then I was in a front wheel slide and down with ten feet or so of body slide, they go bye bye again. So towards the last third and we are running into many of the 120 B 35+ riders who started 2 mins. ahead of us I get bumped on like the only mild down hill and slide out and to top that guy gives me the WWO wrestling fly body slam,I so stars and shit then just like that got up and just wanted to chase peeps down again.Guess I had some testy goin on,ribs head and neck hurt after the driney went away. So just when I am getting this slick city tricky corning gig out it's over. I ended up 5th which was a big shock thinking I was way furhter back.

So with my venture into the world of crasy numbers and very festive peeps wearing some nothing or something very spectacular and colorful. I would highly recommend this venue just to experience,race or both....Good fun...

So a few more of the trail and Old Mill District. Lots to see and do in a spread but close area.There is that Missoula vibe here but to me and others theres nothing quite like the Zoo town vibe.

I have bean looken over the scads of entrees for the Nationals Cross Race. After doing the nats last year in Kansas I'm seeing double the numbers all ready. Oregon is like cross capitol with the cross crusade getting any were from 1,000 to 1,400 people at there scenes which is over the top but pretty cool. They are the true rock stars of cross even though Montana has the best thriller dance crew. Doin it up solid gold style. The rolling thunder cross race this weekend will rock. It is raining here in Oregon imagine that and supposed to all weekend so this wimp Nancy will have to buck up or stay off the bike.All for now take care.

It has seemed like I either got the pig flue or some stomach mass up but might be coming out of it. And just in time cause I wanna race a couple crossies this weekend with Salem Saturday and Hillsboro cross crusade Sunday. SO gotta buck up a month after not racing. It is supposed to rain so the real thing oh my.

I blew over to Bend the other day and it was a real treat on the trails right out of town like Z-town . They have way more corner grove going on making the ride like cross coarse. Not allot of long climbs were I was with quite a bit of flatter easy up and down stuff.

So checked out the hipster side of town around the Old Mill District with the De chutes brewery close by also the amphitheater which are all a part of the cross Nat's venue with thick groomed grass,gravel parking lots pavement and dirt grave like pit area. i only could tell in a few areas were peeps had bean ridding Cross bikes. What ever they lay out it shouldn't have much climbing but some good run up spots and looks to be pretty fast but who knows what nature will bring and that's the beauty right?

So here I am in Oregon again and the green is really green,which is easy on the eyes. The weather compared to Zoo Town cold spell is a nice reprieve. I'm not ready yet for the freeze down,to wimpy for that.
The temps have bean 60's and dry till today now the green maker is falling from the sky for who knows how long.
The road ridding is so stellar after trying to navigate around pot holes,canyon sized cracks and traffic most every where to or from in the and Missoula area. You can be out in the country doing loops with rolling hills and some leg breaker climbs with out the challenge of so many fast moving impatient drivers. But it's not the perfect world there are always a irate gonna mow you down type any where.
The mountain biking is great but not that much challenging compared to what the Rockies throw down. It's like go fast and freeway smooth most the time.
The air quality is way better than the Zoo Town stuff but ho needs all that fresh air when you are close to the Rockies ,it's gotta be there right???
When you ride trail in the moss covered trees and rock areas with the thick dark forest you get the fairy world feal,kinda earie but exciting when your out there all alone.
Looks like Montana cross racing was blessed with the real aliments of cross with cold and snow. Way to go Flurrie and all the rest of the hardy souls terrine it up.

Well now the last week has passed and I am a free spirit again and ready to move around and in joy the off time from work. So were should I go first? I feal the south warm air pulling at me.

It's bean a nice summer and great to be social with as many friends as much as possible. I will miss all the biking buds and others that are all so great to spend time with. And oh ye Zoo Town with it's vibrancy.

I with a few hardy few did the Pat tee Canyon Hill climb.The wind was almost hurricane force going up hill,that's just not right.I did some of Stuart Peak with Schultz the day before so the legs weren't very amped up. Our boy Josh Tack kicked it again up the big nasty. The NRO team riders did well taking 5 or more of the age groups. The best part was the crasy priceses people brought for entree,some good imagination out there.

Cross season is in full swing all around and many peeps are with the fun from Wednesday to the weekends of 2 day full on racing.OK all take care and ride safe and rubber down...

It has bean abusy couple of weeks , travel to Pendelton Or. for the round up then over to tri cities for more fun and off to Colfax to see Ma Ma. I hit the Trail of the Coure d" Lene from the Plumer side.

For any one who hasn't cruised this thing it is a slight down hill for 7 miles then a mile crossing on high bridge and dike across the lake then skirting the lake past Harrison a place a played hard in my young and out of control days,on a little further. I wanted to go the distance 71 miles but not having the time 26 out was my turn around. Right now would be the time to view this area. We are talking big fall beauty.

I am on my last week of work so kinda real excited cause I am like a suffer bum wanting the freedom to roam or do what ever.

Did the dirt last night with one of the fun group of peeps and after even more peeps at the Rattle Snake Gardens for Cold Smoke oh ya. Then with all the hype and talk we had to cruise on down to the Big Dipper for thier version of Cold Smoke ice cream....It rocks even with out the important alcohol ingridiant.

So posibly off to Butte for kick my ass cross racin this weekend. Sort of physiced but also fealling lasy. That happens to old people I herd.

Bike time fun

So this last weekend like the others lately was rock star and we were a part of it. Great peeps along the way with deer creek and plum creek over to Hollaman Saddle then rail time plus down Miller Creek. Getting the trusted pinch flat from trying for a smother less tire preasure ride.

Everyone along from Tyler,J P,Jooeey,Gero,Scooter and me got some lung busting panoramic views. The spirit was on at times then conversation about the ride ,scenery etc.

We were out about 5 hours with some good stops not bad for all rookies on this trail but me and I was in guess direction mode a couple of times.

I took this pix of this very cool and respective shrine that some peeps have put up by Curry Cabins. The bad news is the forest service nazis took it all a way for the um teen time. I'm not real political but this is crap so maybe the next time we see some of the personnel we give a little of the personal felling.

Oh and the cute little girl is Amaya my gran daughter she can put the hurt on me hiking already and is way into Big Dipper afterwards.

Biked a bit last weekend around the Flathead with the shim and the bike about to Albert on when I got back to town. Then Little trip to Billings for work and play.

This place isn't that bad not that I wanna live there but the bluffs the sights are different and kinda cool.

So the chant is cycle cross right now but not ready to give up the pa voe just yet. The trail and still is so stellar with this new dew stuff com in out of the sky it will just keep on given.

Did a great sun down ride with Willie-Z ,Z-man and Blair project out to trails end with some spirit here and there then pasta a couple of cold smoke and the topper being the Mt B world championship. Today Z-man and I to Albertan . Now scrunch down and hide time except the Ualll Breeener is texin for a showing at the Jowl Brown show. Should I stay or should I go??????

Well now the Z-Town trail has bean steller we gifted here right now. No smoke things are real green in the hights and moutain flowers still alive is this August or a dream.

I went on a great sorta cool down from the heat mt. B wendsday then Thursday another great day in the snake reverse up Walman that creates back issues half way up then good fun down hill and back up Curry past the cabin for some more of that leg and back issue stuff then the fun down and done at the Rattle Snake Garden for a couple of well earned cold smoke which just melt their way down ones throght with way to much eas.

Did golf Saturday with a friend and had the game from hell. i am still the rookie at tis thing but oh my I usually have fun and just don't let it get me but I was talken sailor and all that wanna toss a club thing. So no more golf tell therapy.

My Grandaughter Amaya turned 4 on Saturday so it was kid crasyness at Bonner Park all good easpeacially with those speacial ear plugs in. Not really.....

So Sunday did a great crossie ride with Tyler and Brooksie we went up Butler to snow to raveen and down the snake. Man the ruff stuff on the rigged fram sucks.

Then it was off to distri 9 kinda creepy but intrtaining.

So Monday a work day time to rest up for next weeks excitment......

So took a little trip down to the Wallowa mountains and hit a few spots on highway 12 on the way the Lochsa never gets boring,then theres the trip side in and out of Lewiston south to Aston then 90 miles to Wallowa going past Rim rock with tee pees and a great place to eat and drink good wine.

Staying at the cabins right next to the mountains with a smorges board of trails, water falls and lakes galore.

Of coarse they have all the tour on facilities for the fams. Just bring the plastic and it's all good. There are tons of trails and there isn't much running into peeps because of the vastness of hikes and the spectacular views.

O K so I was a dead beat bike racer last week but it's not the end of the world even if we think like it is sometimes. That's the thing called anal competitive. It's all good but letting it go can be key and what makes us and me try harder. I had a in body melt down which there is nothing one can do . My mind was totally in but physically it just wasn't there DAAAAAAAAAAAAMM.

So pretty much over it. Got little ones to play with and take ones mind to a special non caring easily distracted place. It sure works for little people maybe we could learn lots from them....I have bean hanging out with my daughters and gran daughters the past few days and that's good fun!!!

It like rained Thursday morning about half an inch making for some beautiful trail riding last night . Then the monsoons hit with 3 inches last night, which we just don't do in Z-town-wow. This made for peeps looking for floaties to cross intersections. Joe stay low Chalmers had to head out to do some trail this morning with no takers especially me. he is mud dog guy from Seattle so this is norm for him.

One of those weekends to catch up and enjoy some slow down,works for me. I think I am getting more Cally like daily. Dirt's up dude....

Well I have bean busy and lasy so there you have it. Two weeks ago I started fealling the get well mode so off to a near by race in Hamilton area the Tour de Bitteroot with crit and tt all in the same day ouch.

I showed up for the masters with A and B combined this went sort of well with making a break for the prime I took Rich Graves and dave Langston both Flathead valley teamies. Big mistake should of set up like a lasy monkey but ent on and was attacked by my two freinds over and over tell i rolled over like a puppy wanting the tummie rub thing. So having two other peeps chasing on we worked to stay away from the pack and I ws lucky to take the print for 2 over all.So having some brain freeze idea to ride in the 1-2-3's which went out like the silver streak with in the vapor position just barely hanging on. This went on for 3 or 4 laps me breathing like their just wasen't enough air in the chambes. But for some insane reason after a few attacks mine being mine I tried one more with Alix L. and some how it stuck and we raced hard and strong for 40 mins. to the finish with A taking the win. Fun and intence stuff.

Well I had so much fun I decided I had so much fun I went to Bozo with the rest of the NRO team which did well in the Bitteroot so here we went again with a 12 mile tt then well attended street sprints down town with one really hilly and beautiful mountain and prairie road race.

I made some bank at each stage which where pretty generous cash prizes.The road race for me and all others was intence with a dead monkey on your leg 200 hundred meter 12 persent grade finish. I was teid with Dave the danger Langston for 2nd and our 1 st place dude had machanicals

so it came down to the srprint and his killer instink was on duty mine off so 2nd over all and that is all good. The rest of the team placed well in every race we entered congrats to my homies .

How are all the bike warriors and not? I've bean on the mend from rib damage for 7 weeks now and still get some bad pings here and there with the wrong flinch or something. Never doin that fun stuff again. Sense rat pod which then I was coming around and finding a little more top end and recovery, I've slowly went back wards and got all run down . now have the sinus wees oh boy.

Meant the family Z, Waldo, H-bomb,Stealth and a few other tour ethicist at the press box Friday. Kind of a big day and the H D rocks there. The 2 fity breaky and it was all good.

Even if I new I would bury my wounded ass try in to keep up with the zone 3 Z-man I went with him after the tour coverage and just kinda hung back and forth up Pattee then 39th over to Blue Mountain to Kona and back t zoo town. On the way past McKay flat were it has this pond by the road I was thinking moose sighting and sure enough there's Bo winkle gettin his facial in the mossy murky water.

We on the North side have a new road block on the way to most our homes called the Kettle House-Oh darn....Lots more room to drunkenly roam along the block long bar. The North side is the strong side baby.

Almost blow things up time 09

Alot of days went by ina hurry,could or would some body slow this thing down? The weather is in total rock star mode-Love it. Got plenty of ideas for the vitamin D time.

Lets see it as bean a blur sense I wrote last. I did the Rat Pod thing with friends and meant and revisited with peeps during. This ride is for such a good cause and the sure enjoyment of the route and fabulous food stops----especially the last with the home made pies kinda spoil person for ever racing again. This is the way to ride. I was in like a go fast group of Willy Z, Alex G,Lindsey C and Z-man. We might of average something like 23 mile a hour for 130 miles. This was a fun some torturous pace but good fun.

That night Z-man and I tent camped in Jackson Hot springs. My first time there, nice and rustic. The water is so smooth and clean like. The mosquitoes were relentless though and oh my they can bring ye down. The ridding in and around the big hole is some of the best I've ever rode. The Maverick ski and up over the pass towards wise has the bomb for smooth pavement most the way and such eye opening sights.

Its go time for the forth now,got company on the way and need to shape the man cave up in a hurry or maybe not. Lots going on in the Z-Town Over the weekend. Enjoy all and keep it real!!!

A new day

So here we go again with another week just disappearing. The days do that some times hopefully you all are satisfied with your days and have lived them as full as one can.

I jumped in a state road race last week we had at Bear mouth east of Zoo-Town. It was changed in coarse of out and back this year which threw in a fairly good climb of 4 or 5 miles wit some steepness towards the top. I road with the masters which had maybe 25 to 30 riders. A good strong group for the most part with the exception of a few riders that just don't get it yet for the none yo yo,the to close to a wheel knee jerk reaction to just hitting the breaks with a hole crew behind them moves that make for a little to much drama. Me with rib problems tend to pucker easy in these situations and get a little lippy but hopefully peeps understand it's for mine and their own up right position .

This last week was a blur. After the race which for the first one sense the 5th of April and some miner rib crack age I felt good but not satisfied. That's why we keep on turn in the rubber. The fun,the adrenalin rush, the social scene and the competition.

I after commuting all week and having some rib pings did the Thursday night Mt. B thing with Bill Schultz's group. They are a bunch of fun lovin hard ridden guys that can really polish the beer and the yuca juice down after the ride. So after way to much rib healing yucca I try the night time no balance ride home. U tube would of loved me. Next day was a 4 hour ride with friends via rock creek. I tasted yucca most the ride hence the name. Saturday group ride to Albertan,great coffee shop out their by the way and mini farmers market. So today being Fathers day I think a leg strecthen hike is the plan with it raining and all. A nap after which has really bean the norm lately. I'm I getting that old or what???

Hey all we have had some pretty stellar weather for the past few days,how about us in Z-Town???

I got brave and jumped on the mountain bike trail Thursday with one of the many same night rides. it hurt some especially if I tried throwing in the body english thing. The down hill puckers me bad. But the night and the peeps was rockstar. the man can PBR after at the Snake put the finishing touches on a un scaved ride. Like that.............

Did a road ride yesterday with Z-Man and when Pattee Canyon appeared he disappeared. I got no top end at all so that's why I may jump in on the sate road race to start working on that. The coarse sounds fun even for an out and back.

Just wanna say good luck to a Yuma friend Paul Danhaus in his challenge of the Ram across America, he will be ridding in the 60 plus group and more than likely he will rock the socks off many even in the younger age classes. Go Paul !!!

SO ye I am healing but way to slow for my liking. Getting out of bed still even drives the pain cave chart up. Not to mention trying the bike ca mute and last night my first baby step road ride with every bump sending pain waves from the area and way short on breath. But come back and maybe no burn out late summer int cross season .

and in lightning. Butttttttttttttttttt I wanna be out there doin all that so bad. I am in bog envy mode and have had a few to many pity parties but I like most peeps don't take the injury slow down thing well.

I had finally had great weather stuff goin so the huge winning had gone a way like the wind . So now the wind blew a new round of sorry for myself feelings. Sorry man..........

Body damage

Ye that be me somthing happened yesterday that I have bean lucky to avoid for a long time. I was out doin one of the things I Love , trail on a beautiful day and everything was good even some fitness showing up.
Well I really don't take things for granted and I have pretty good skill but I hit a shaded spot after a short steep climb and had just raised the front whel over a tiny hump and came down with some kinda me faillier or fork which seems real soft all the sudden well yard sale stack up insude and this dude was endoe down and no breath and lots of pain. It took a good 5 min. to get some breath going right and a couple of kind and concerned folks checken me out.
I got myself together and limped back to home turf but new things wern't right. I can barley move with out big rib pain front and rear. So for the best I'm tuff sorta but almost in tears last night but no hospital stuff cause with the life style I have i have not to and thats yes no ins. Not recamended but any hoo gotta suffer this one out. Kinda puts the cabosh on things and pretty darn depreassing but some day I'll be back..... Schwag.....

Well I found a few shots to share. Maybe no pretty boy in the park with some one Elise's shorts on. That was actually on the front of the Mothers Day card I got. Guess what she still Loves me and has it out with the others , she is cool like that.

In Fax city to see my Mom that is Colfax by Pullman with some awesome rolling hill terrain to mall over. But not much for trail. Moscow Mt. is like the closes thing around 30 miles away. Makes me Jones for the trail we are so lucky to have in our back ward.

So I am a happy camper this is what I'm talken about for weather. The wine is gone the smile and content feal is back. just enjoy and enjoy.
My training hasen't bean on track at all latley so what to do ? I wanna just take this great warm blue sky stuff i nd not worry about it. I will or not get it going when I'm ready and this way I can really bring the wine the next time I atempt a race and have big neg results.

Oh thank you up there so much , that was way more like it with the warmth the rides the social times. I went hard from Friday to Sunday now on the down time list maken the backside a flat side.

I rode over to Big Flat were I 'v bean helpen some peeps to build a mt. Bike trail on their land ,every one should have this in their back yard. Now i have the blisters to prove there was some work comin out of me. I also rode over and up Saw Mill same day to use up the day and the magic hour of light.

Saturday La Patit ride out to Alberton with some spirited stuff especially from the Z-Man. Then off to Caras Park to enjoy the true beauty of liven in Z-Town. A couple of IPA-s later and life was good. So after a BBQ at the daughters and a half bottle of wine off we where to the down town thing and a late night to be totally entertained by Jeff Emmett of Pearl Jam Banden the punk rock stuff with some of his old homies. The mosh pit was a rocken even with out the Radman.....

Sunday after the domastic stuff all morning and afternoon then off on the Felty 29 er up the Cox land into the forest and back to the bottom and up again for good measure then a start down again till I ran into a friend for some friendly ridding and down to the Dipper for 2 serious scoops of huckel berry in the waffle. Life is goooooood.....

I have bean in backwards mode lately but not willingly but it's just there with little or no training the last 2 weeks. I am in a weather slump and now the sick munchkins have taken over and I have no desire to train.
It will change just like the weather, that's like a light switch this year the spring thing is hang en on desperate like.
I made the move from the man cave to the condo rental , nice reprieve. Got stairs and rooms how about that?
I missed the Belt stag race last week, choosing a pretty much no ride affair in Colfax
to visit Mom before Mom day except for one day on a old favorite 20 miler with around 2,200 feet of elevation gain. Nice stand you up out of the saddle wind may ed the ride a workout.
From here down to the Tri Cities to visit and take in a Blues and rock concert. Weather was in the 70's and I was in lay in the vitamin D mode around the pool and next to the Columbia River. By the wat congrats to the NRO crew that did very well. Especially you radman rippen with the rockers.

Well a little hiatus but I have an excuse or two. I have bean staying in my man cave out at work which is convenient for that but 8 miles out in isolation past the smoke jumper spot. Anyway after the Roubiax I like many was beat up beyond recognition and the week following weather reminded me even more so how much I miss that warm con finds of Tucson. But that area is probably starting to get near melt down heat.

I didn't ride till Thursday which really didn't bother me much with the butt freazen temps all week. Look out for a few days with warmer temps and people espeacially the female types were wearing less in the bundle up mode. Some well most of us guys love the warmer weather for many of those reasons-hey were just human.

I did the rand um hill thing Friday with Z-man worken over all the south side Pattee canyon and trails end stuff at Zilmer speed och.... Then came first Friday that had most the Zoo town population in attendance. Dan the Swaman artist had his stuff in peace and pleasure building. His stuff has a very original daring artsie touch-like it... next was sharing of wine with the Z-man and some great Eddy Merx vintage ass kicking of many a great byclelists.

So Saturday brought a awesome group of around 20 rider's out at La Patit via the bitter root on to the bike path that is getting closer to the magic mark in Hamilton all the time. It would be billionaire if we ever get a stretch between Zoo town and LoLo. We were out something over four hours and I was Lucky enough to follow Joey,Chad and Dr. Steve back to joey and Scotts house where we were treated to some rockstar sandwiches. I will follow these guys home any time.

So here is Sunday and I get the call from Cassman to drag my non skill self around Shadows keep golf coarse for 9 holes. Hey it's hilly up there nice leg stretcher I guess. Then off to the Cox land up around crasy canyon and to the sock on the Elite Nine that just plain changed my Mt. B world into way more fun and smile.

So big time in catch up mode for the blog but diden;t wanna get fired from the Radman so here you have it. The Schwag........

Rock star weekend

Lots going all weekend then came work . I am still trying to figure out what that is. Actually I hate to admit it but maybe 6 months off dose freshen up the batteries and I am enjoying the work and peeps. But trust me I wont get to carried away and ask for full time back. Oh hell no....

I practically rode the wheels off the 29er up and down an around. It seems to rode well to . I went up my friends off Big Flat Saturday after putting a mark on Blue Mountain that I'm pretty sure it didn't feal. They have a little timber space so we decided trying to blaze some Mt. B trail in, well good thought but right now after 3 hours busting a move on many rocks and a billion pine needles it wasn't to evident we had done anything. May some day after many blisters some chosen words and many cold ones.....

Saturday off to the play Rabbit Hole which was well done but pulled on the hart stings to the point of teering, don't tell anyone of my sensitivities K....

Sunday back to the black top in a little tour the French town, up a new loop Tucitac over to 93 , this is a nice extra maybe 5 miles. Then finished with the sweet Pattee C climb and now the legs are a bust this Monday so only a commute to work. My damaged little piggy hurt some even ridding today oh ye that's another story to end Sunday wit ha bang or broken toe. It's all black and blue and twice the size. Teach me to do toe head on into the corner of a wall. I must of bean oblivious from all the sun and fresh air. No amputation yet. Have a good week each and all...

Another week

Oh yea one more week in the books. For those that are steady work grinders these days my hat is tipped. I am still try in to fit this work thing into my schedule but oh my it;s in the way of that nomadic no care ride when I wont do what I wont way of life .
It was really on the frost bitten side this last week right or is everyone in the northwest just numb from all the cold days ? I out side finally on Wednesday but remember I am the spoilt wimp from the south. This dose bring the southern pull back in a biggy way.
Great bright spot of the week was getting my new Felt Elite Nine. Hey I hadn't even rode one of these 29ers i just jumped with peeps research and comments on this bike being the bomb. It is and more. After picking it up at open Road were the crew had created it out of the box with it showing a few druel marks from who knows. Are team NRO got a great deal with sponsorship from the shop and all the other great sponsorship help from all our other support .....
So I headed to Blue mountain trails which was golden with primo traction and other than a huge horse divie here and there and the horse ka ka thats like doge the poop trials at times it was all good for 3 and a half hours cause i just got carried away. This 29 er thing is for real and I would highly recommend it for that next splurge with the next stimulus serge... take care all and spring is maybe sprung............ Yessssssssssssss...

From Chill to descent to the chill again

All rightie then the Frozen Flat lands turned into a pretty nice weather weekend. My big complaint is the I raced Saturday who said you ever know everything about nothing is right on. I still make piddle like mistakes and take the brunt from myself after. That's usually interesting but doesn't always sink in apparently. I took a fly er with another guy in the road race with a K to go we did get and had gape to the what was so pose to be the end of the race but their 200 was really 400 meters and well game over. We swallowed up like disposal. i ended up withe 4th, not good after a 3rd in the tt. So got a little whiskey and had a shot....By the way don't try this at home. but next day legs were worken and attacks were co min out of them and I had sprint in the end so may Landis has something as long as they don't do the check.

The sea of green did very well it was a pleasure riding some my teamies in the big numbered fast old guy bracket-Good work Squiggly and Blair W. And real nice placings from a lot of NRO peeps.

I started work last Monday and oh my it hurts sort of good it is real nice to be back in Zoo town and visiting with the peeps, did miss a few more than others you know... Already get tin back into the down town grove and the cruisen around our beautiful oasis...I have already bean to Sauwa Dee's and Susi Hana's and to some friends the Neidermans from good food, wine and company. It is all good..... In Zoo Town !!!

Well I hung out in Cheney last night nothing real exciting. Did the reading thing then a movie with a glass of wine. kind of a run away right? Well I was in the cold cave during the night not wanting to run the trailer batteries down with soothing warmth. I managed and could even move some in the morning . A call to T lets me know I am parked in the wrong spot by a bout a mile so I scamper out to the cruiser which looks like igloo. I make those little port holes you know for awesome sight and set out the mile to the new start and suddenly I am in a full twiggle with the trailer trying to pass me-so the road is one sheet of ice in the shaded spots.

I get to the start and meet and greet the sea of green peeps we have on our team now-cool. We finally go on the tt and I am in pain cave mode for it and the road race. I get turned kinda inside out. Start not liken racing much. It happens and I will move on cause that's what we racing crazies do. SO take care and I will share more soon.

Ye here I am after traversing from Yakima. In my travels yesterday I cam to the Han ford area along the way and didn't see any glow age,the wind was slight,the temp around 50 at 10:30 am. But the traffic was heavy in this area so that was my ploy at the time for no ride zone. Bad decision man. The closer to Fax city the cooler with big wind so next way out of ridding, god I am getting pathetic on this fare ridding thing.

I pull into Fax city around 1:30 eat at retired time with parents then really don't wanna do any paddle action. Finally after great mind debate lasting an hour I turn into a bundled up mess, get the mountain bike out and begin some kind of hilly paved and unpaved workout which doesn't last long. My rear hub has come loose or I have some serious issues. So I limp it and me back to the house. I then saddle up to the trainer for a boring hour and twenty in front of some know brainier TV. Fun stuff and from the weather for cast i will be getting more acoionted with the remote.

Bean hanging with the fam and freinds the past few weeks and lovin it. Bean out hiking with Danyel and Payton and doing some nice rides around the Bert Gilman trail, up around Burlinton which is always bone chillin cold-burrrr and just did a great ride up and into the snow yesterday here in Elensburg.

I stoped at the first exit into town off the freeway,got the crossey dash road stead out and up towards the foothills into Manashtash Canyon. It was a nice steady climb for about 6 miles. It turned to gravel sort of muddy road so usual wimp in me turned around but by the time I got back to little home on wheels I had 2 hours, that worked.

I'm headed into Yakima today to visit with my Dad and other fam and get some ridding in around the valley if the weather gods are on my side.

Must hit a winery or two being in the best wine spot around right?

Oh boy the wimpy wineing will continue just a bit longer till I get on the east side of the mountains, then it will be warmer right? Some were in the last 2 weeks I have seen the sun two and half times I think.
Saturday I rode with some peeps from Danyel's bike team to this Mason Lake bike race. I went knowing I would be there to late to race in the 50 plus so I was diving in with the 30 plus 1-2-3'S and the pro 1-2 women who had it going on and numbers.
The 60 mile 5 lap course wasn't real climb crazy but had those rollers that were almost always there and race pace it took it's toll on the old man. I stayed with most the early hits and at the front but on the 2nd lap I slipped back just a bit and 3 guys got away and 2 guys after that. I chased but know one else would work so there you have it race pretty much over. I rode myself into the ground the last half of the last lap and felt like I got some good hard training.
They had homemade chicken noodel soup and cookies which really hit the spot and there were some people I knew from Washington race days. These peeps over here have the speed and fitness going well. I need some top end work and probably need to shed a few calories.

Yes I am a wimp but I feal good about it. What you might be asking, well here you have it. It has flat rained for close to 48 hours and big wind like the fan at full force at times.

I like to race and I am pretty competitive but the knowledge thing and the wimp factor kicked in hard Sunday so another day of exercise in the outdoors. Boy I need to man up soon or get used to the fat,sassy and laziness over taking me.

I admire the peeps that race and train know mater the conditions. I've lost the edge sense leaving the warm comfy southwest.

When the real spring decides to show up maybe I can pry myself away from the warmth of the indoors , the close proximity to the fridge and the professionalism I posses with the remote.....

Really I'm gonna quite wining some day but just not yet...............I'm not like the Flurries and there pro training friends,that by the way do some real epic adventures full of plenty of gut busting burst. Then there's Joe the racing mans man very fit and kick en it in the Seattle area mountain bike racing early season. Also Bill the training guru. I get inspired by you all but just like to read your achievement's and live it vicariously through you all....Thanks Man..............

Well that winter like fealing still in the air. I crept up on the trainer once again today for another hour and half of butt numbing peddle your ass in one spot kind of no fun or scenery unless you get lucky with the remote ....

So I came upon a spring training thing in Phoenix with the Seattle mar. baseball. Temps close to the 80's the rest of the week oh my will I be able to do this adjustment??? I am ruined for doin the cool weather with out day after day blue bird......Dam......The surf fer dude is Owen Gu the gu-man and some times known as a relative or son of mine???

Up the beautiful Cally and Oregon coastline. Allot of road trip but the sights were spectacular. There are so many places to see but so little time. Once I got into travel mode it is the way to see so much from the dashboard but the bike is my favorite. Did hikes and should have rode more but it got cool and clammy. I better get over this Inna hurry or the trainer will have to be my friend and I can't see that happening.....
I already miss the short sleeve and shorts so much. The bike racing thing even if it was only one stage race I'm felling with draw. Maybe a race in the Banana Belt around Portland this weekend. They have a Fifty plus which would have some go fast guys even at that age, dose seem old but these guys still have the go and the big desire.
I look dark com paired to these fair skin peeps in the northwest..... But rest assured that tan thing will disappear soon and I will blend right in. Keep the rubber side on the down side all.....Schwag

So how is everyone doin out there? Do ye miss me? I am in Palm springs for a couple of days tryin out some of their R and R and riding here which isn't bad for road or mt. b . The hiking works too. Their is quite a crowd of peeps here so any main type road is on over use status. The resort atmosphere is The time in Tucson is missed and I could of stayed much longer but the move on part of the vision quest is in me and the plans are there. I raced last weekend in the North end Classic in Yuma, Az, This a well put on stage race with a crit first off in old town that is full of turns and a couple of minor climbs with bombed into the er down hill turns that come at you quick and you need to be on your toes and treat the hole coarse with respect which a few too many races didn't Saturday and their ended a few too many broken bones.

In my first race the 55 plus in the 8:00 am mode we didn't even get in a half a lap and one guy charged into a fast down hill right turn and headed right for the curb so over reacted diving back into the pack and took out a friend Jake the Belgium bomb and his self into the curb and a pole that broke his hip in three places and his pelvis. Jake broke his scapula. This shouldn't but did happen. I saw the in tire miss hap and then had to get back in race mode because that's why I was there and the guy not involved and a head of the hole thing was putting distance between the others and me fast. I bridged up then worked wit him right away then had a gape and kept it up to the finish and I had a little more sprint than this guy. The next race some buddy else went down taking another out both getting a broken collar bones.

I got a hour and half rest and went back out with the 45 plus fast and fit guys , we went out fast right away and kept it going with a five man break two laps in then one guy doin what happens to me pnce in while getting shelled a lap later. Our group with the exception of one wheel sucken dude worked well and put around a minute into the chase group. We stayed together and I finished 3rd and felt good about the race. We were going into some corners with so much speed it was hard to not go for the breaks but one corner had my respect and got a little break help every line up into it.

The road race was flat and fast and I had to race in one so the 55 plus was my first choice so it was short so I turned it into time trial after dragging a few deturmaned guys around tell I wore them down in atacks. I got first over all, a nice plauqe, tee shirt and hundred bones.... Love the schwag oh ye........

Yuma now to visit with my folks for a few days and to do the Northend Classic stage race. So I need to eat more and drink less or is that the other way around? Either way thease retired snow birds know way into a thing or two .

I rode with some of the foothills gang yesterday it was nice to get a little caught up and to see how much they had improved sence I was down here in November.

They have had some rain here , actully a little more than usual and there is actully some green grass poping up and more flowers than normal, has that beauitiful desert collor thing going on...

After meeting up with some of Danyels team mates from Seattle I rode a couple of days with them and they are very strong and fit already, look out norhtwest riders they are coming back fit.We did Kit peak the last day for me in Tucson which was some fn and had some great views of the vast vistas and the observatories at the top.

Thease ladis can also really cook and could show you a thing or two with drinking wine. There rented out house was rock star like wit the best pool and hot tub calmbo ever also great space on the patio for cooking and the kiva with the presto long doin double time. The peeps that come to Tucson to ride their asses off also know a thing or two about the pampered side.

SO I have bean hittenthe trails and the roads this week after doing a hike Monday in some new ares around my owasis in Catalina State Park. Tue. was two and half hour mt.B back on the 50 year trail , a taci sort of cool trail that works me. Wen. a little 5 hour day with mostly flat on the back side of Gates pass. I ran opon the cycling house crew out with the Talsa Tri peeps that was fun and broke up the long day. Thur. I tried hooking up witht the masters group I've rode with before but they start at 8:30 and I misse them again so got with guman and hooked up with his tri group peeps again and had a spirited ride out to Madera Canyon with that 13 percent mile and a half of hell on the legs. Relly I need the a 25 on the rear the 23 just isen't doin it for me and the old legs.. So today bein Fi. is a down day and tomorrow I may give the Shoot out a try, this ride being loaded with the some supersatars. But 7:30 start really dosen't apeal. I don't have any idea how I get to work during the work season at 6;00-----how do I do that??????
We are back in the high 70's and I'm loven that temp my personal fav................ So ride hard and keep the smile all......

Tucson hiken beauty 09

So the last week was a lot cooller so off I went hiking a bit more and enjoyed the views and surroundings more so. I also sis a little to much and have the sore legs to prove it. Ah the soreness in a different way. I biked a little less but still getten in 2 to 3 hour ventures. i did Tortilla Flats by Apache Juntion yesterday. Nice bunch of up and down.

Beam pretty cushey in my little haven in Catalina State Park so signed up for another week I am totolly spoiled on the hook ups and nice warm showers . No more Camp Longmire and dry camping for a while. Pretty happy to hang and go from here were ever the bike or the hike takes me.

SO the wheater has dafinently cooled down some but still great and doable for hiken and Mt. Biken. I went on on the Mt . B for about 3 hours afew days a go and it was full of about every varity of terrien, obstacales,water, humps, bumps and tire stoppen incliens. SO after the age thing exscuss came into full focuss.

Next day I'm out on kind of a recon hike trail thing which aventually leads me up the Romero trail in to the up-up mold but well worht the leg ach by the end. There are definently some wonder hikes around here.

So yesterday I'm pretty much into spin and recover day until a few of the Orcol Valley peeps try schreden by me at mock speed on ther bikes then a go fast dude on a beefed up faster than most incumdent . Hey most the time I can grin and bear it but that wasen't my M-O for the dAY SO ATTACK MODE . I caught up and put uss both in the pain cave till he gave in probolly just befors me....Dude could rock on that thing............... So much for recover mode........

Played touron Tombstone and Bisbee 09

So I went with Bill and CIndy to the wild west town of Tombstone where they still reinact the old gun fight and way of life days, sorta cheassie but interesting history stuff. Then off to Bisbee were we walked around alot of the town which is mostly built into the hill sides. The old hotels are historic with alot tales and informative signs to read. Thee was this main atraction to uss the Bicycle Brothol that has nothing but old road , comute and mt. bikes with all kinds of nastalga on the walls and shelfs. The owner ken from Norht Caralina had so much enfoe and old age ridders we could have listened all day. His little workshop was pretty cool with all the tools and a pair of ladies panties hanging on the peg board as well . As you wlked into the workshop there was also a little bar set up. This guy did not have one new bike in the shop but what a fun place. Had to get a shirt with one caption saying Best Little wheelhouse in Arizona and another saying Love-Peace-N bike grease......We went on to Searia Vista from hee and were inpreased with the mountains, trails , and mt. bike trails to be had.

So next day Bill and I go suacide up Mt. Lemon at pain cave pace making from what Bill calls Camp Longmire to Summer Haven which is almost all climb with around 6500 ft of numb your leg climb. Hats off to Bill who has bean doing spin classes, working out on waits and some nordic his tuff. Thats were the Shultz boys get some of that go.

Rest with a small spin today then Saturday I'm doing Madara canyon with the cycling huse gang it has some 11 percent stuff I've bean told.. Och

Ride with the Portland Velo Gang 09

So I've bean riding with the Shultz boys Dad the last couple of days and enjoying the steady Bill pass which is not kicked back by any means. Bills bean in on the Missoula spin classes at Golds Gym around 4 times a week and it shows, he has some good fitness going already and was tuff to hang with.

I road along with the cyclinghouse ride today in some of the same places Bill and had bean on the day before except we did a 8 mile loop in the Sagoro Park East and it was narrow, smoth, scennic and races fast . This Portland group of 9 riders were all pretty fit and ready to test some of that earlly season spunk and they did well.

Back to the cycling house for a great lunch that Owen had put together while were out turnin peddels. He too will make some buddy a good house husband someday. Great food Owen.....

Another beauitiful run up Lemon

This mountain just shows more beauity everytime I ride it. I got with Owen,Brendon, Jen and theman Frank who has bean great to get to know and cruise in the injoyment mode up Lemon for a nice change and I was able to apreciate even more of the views oh ya.

We crested the top and into Summer Haven. And on to kinda glutanie having choclet cream,punkin and berry pies oh my they were homemade and so good. We had chille and sandwhiches . So with little efofort we coasted quite fast down the mountain.

I did Soilder Trail about a mile up the base of Lemon what a grinder from the start all the 3.4 miles in. Lots of great scenic views with so much desert and mountain feal with streams and crossings along the way.

My legs were feallin the effort from the big hike today while ridding with the master group out here. I did slow and long. At first I just rode with Bill and let the group slide away up the rode which I had know problem with today with thease dead stumps. This guy Bill knows just about everything. I learned what the term Honeymoon really stands for-whoed a thunk and also some histiry of prisson Camp area which I had hiked up to the day before.

So after the short 33 miles or so with thease chaps I set out for around another 60 miles touring the area around Colossal Cave - Pistop Hill Rd. and via Houghton Rd. home spot bound . To much saddel time now the legsare real toast with out the jam. Gonna back off for a few, at least I say that now............. Happy trails and chow baby........

So another day but it has bean cold by the standards of this area and the nights in the house on wheels-well ca burrrrrrrrrrrrrr. So poor me but it will and is warmen up so off the wall for this fly.

Did a great affort up Lemon yesterday with brendon,his group from cycle house clients and Chris and Allen from the Haugen-Davis team. We were in rock on mode up to WIndy Point about 14 miles up. I caught with the front runners at the bottom with Chris,Allen,Brendon and John a pro tri guy from Philly. Good strong bunch with lots of punch so onward hole. Brendon a tri dude also and John were strong at the front shelled uss three hang on's or is that wanna be cling on's? I tried bridging on up to them but blew a few times getting caught from behind by Big Al who stands 6-6 , he put it in hurt mode and left me some doing some 410 watege efforts. Uss four gethured up again at the 9 mile mark for a while till the tri boys killed again. I think it's to earlly for this blank stuff. But I am old they are young and it's probolly easy trainen for them.

So today easy ride on the camuter to a trail for some easier hiken waiten for the warm stuff to come back. Chow.........

I hooked with the master group I meant the other day, When I figured out what group they were cause down here it is unreal all the riders and teams espeacially on the weekends. This is trully with some spots in cally the rockstar of biken in the winter. It has Mt. Lemon with almost nothing but climb for 26 miles or the Gates Pass possabilities then a couple other canyons and a long ride out and back to an observatory. Bear with me I am still learning the nmes of all thease.

I hung with the bike house dudes and dudets last night for home made pizza and wine, nice treat. I brought this wine called Red Diamond in a Merlot, it's from washington state of corse and they all liked it enough to drink and want more. i think I will call this winery and look into a rep job cause I've turned at least 20 peopl onto this brand.

When I got ready to leave the young guns Sam Schultz and Brendon Huffman went along as my guide to get me across the wash near by knocking off 4 miles of my ride. Cool till we hit the fisrt water spot with not much trouble but the next being about a foot and a half deep and big curent anf in the dark wasen't doin it for me. So brendon bein the man walked across with flaps on and almost washing a way, he gets back and with a little more ur a wimp Longmire if u don't I did. Riden with big curent was a first a instant butt pukker mode butt I made and it wooped up a moment then anward to the home on wheels with very wet and cold feet............

A rainy day in Tucson

I like the rain right now. Was up most the night with good oh hill climbing leg ach. Need a down day with on the backside routein in mind, so that be my structured work out of the day. I mentioned crampeage yesterday well some of the ach is coming from that. I'm still glad I did the grind at least in my mind.

I have ment a guy Nick from Canada that help me get up the mt. lemon thing and today with down time and a need for a coffee shop Iwas pleasently surprised to meet and chat with around 6 retired type of freindly riders who i hope to get in with their rides from La Buzz coffee shop, so cool.

So great place to be in the 80's and oh it feals so good to ride in. Iment some of the Missoula crew and a few from Seattle and a few new people and did the grulling Mt. Lemon today Oh My it has some climbing.

A few more days in Zoo Town

Well the time is winding down for the froszen tundra of Zoo Town and I am ready to get the confines of warm Tucson.................I may need to learn to how to ride a bike all over. The nordic sking here has bean great and I a finally finding my groove now that it's time to leave. But it's all good.........

It is nice to have bean up North for a bit to keep me ohnest on the wheather thing and being able to hang with the pips,liken that. Keep the rubber side down in all your adventures. The schwage...........
